Largo, Md. – The Washington Nationals and Prince George’s County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) will host a Summer at Your Library (S@YL) Tails and Tales kickoff event at National Harbor with second baseman Josh Harrison on Saturday, June 12 at 11 am. Harrison will read a story for children and speak to the importance of reading and summer learning. At the Josh Harrison special event, customers can sign up for Summer @ Your Library and/or a PGCMLS library card onsite, pick up S@YL swag, and visit the Nationals Team Store. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is recommended. Click here to register.

On June 26 from 1-4 pm, the Library’s S@YL Kickoffs with goodie bags and fun activities for pick up at 18 branch locations will be happening for all ages. The participating branch libraries are AccokeekBadenBeltsvilleBladensburgBowieFairmount HeightsGlenardenGreenbeltHillcrest HeightsLargo-KetteringLaurelMount RainierNew CarrolltonOxon HillSouth BowieSpauldings, and Upper Marlboro. The pop-up location for the Hyattsville S@YL event is University Church Nursery School in College Park.

More than a traditional summer reading program, Summer @ Your Library encourages children, teens, and adults to read 30 minutes each day, attend a library event or Nationals game (online or in person), use the online library or branches, explore the wide range of streaming movies and music in the 85+ online resources, and participate in interactive social media challenges with the hashtag #SummeratPGCMLS. S@YL participants can track their activity progress throughout the summer and earn badges and prizes with a downloadable S@YL game board or the Library’s Beanstack website and app (iOS/Android).

The midway prize of a tee shirt (10 points) can be picked up beginning June 29. The completer prize (20 points) can be picked up beginning July 17 and includes a free book and entry into the grand prize drawing. Grand prizes are courtesy of PGCMLS and the Washington Nationals (the S@YL 2021 presenting sponsor). Grand prize winners will be notified in late August. Summer @ Your Library is made possible by the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, Washington Nationals, and PGCMLS Foundation.

Customers can access PGCMLS resources with a PGCMLS library card number or a LINK card number for Prince George’s County Public Schools students. Virtual library card registration is open to Prince George’s County residents and others throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC area. Participants can explore suggested summer reads on the Library’s BeanstackNextReads, and Book List platforms.
